Is there anything Austin Habitat's Home Repair does NOT work on?
Yes. Cosmetic or general property improvements are ineligible through this program. We are also restricted from working on the following items:
- Burglar Bars
- Patios or Decks (except repairs of existing structures)
- Carpeting for kitchen, bathrooms or patios
- Garage Door openers
- Wet bars
- Barbecue pits
- Bath houses
- Window treatments (e.g. draperies, shades, curtains)
- Driveways and Parking Lots (except when repairing existing structures)
- Fireplaces (except when repairing existing structures)
- Flower Boxes
- Hot tubs or Jacuzzis
- Mobile Homes
- Outdoor fireplaces or hearths
- Photo murals
- Swimming pools or decks around pools
- Television antennas
- Tennis courts
- Permanently affixed kitchen appliances
Austin Habitat reserves the right to disallow other projects costs deemed nonessential to furthering the purpose of the project.
How do I know if I live in the Austin City Limits?
You can confirm that you pay property taxes to the City of Austin by researching your address on the Travis County Appraisal District website.
I'm not sure if I owe back taxes. How do I find out?
Check your status and/or sign up for a payment plan at the Travis County Tax Assesor's website.
Do you repair mobile homes?
No, we are unable to repair mobile homes, rental properties, condos or duplexes. For assistance with mobile home repair contact the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs at 512-463-8921 or on their website.. For assistance with rental properties, contact the landlord or the Austin Tenant's Council at 512-474-1961 or on their website.
Can I apply for assistance more than once?
No, Austin Habitat for Humanity can only work on a property once.
I received repair assistance from another agency in Austin but I still need work done on my house. Can Habitat help?
It depends on the funding sources used to fund the repairs. If a homeowner received assistance within the past year from another repair program with the same funding sources as ours they may be ineligible for repairs through Austin Habitat. Contact the Austin Habitat Home Repair staff at 512-472-8788 x 411 do discuss your options.
Can I apply for repairs on my home that was built by Austin Habitat for Humanity?
No. Houses built by Austin Habitat for Humanity are not eligible for the Home Repair Program as our participants go through detailed classes and on-site construction courses on building and repairs.
Is there a fee for repairs?
Yes. We require a $150 project fee upon approval.
Is there a payment plan option?
Payment plans for the $150 project fee may be available depending on the income and circumstances of the homeowner, and can be discussed at the time of application.
