Affordable Homeownership in Bastrop

Housing costs are on the rise nationwide and this lack of affordable housing has had visible effects in Bastrop. In 2012, 18% of Bastrop’s general population and 27% of the population under the age of 18 lived below the federal poverty line. Austin Habitat for Humanity helps address this issue with our Affordable Homeownership Program:

  • We partner with qualifying low-income families and other community members to build homes
  • These homes are then sold at no profit, affordable mortgages to partnering families
  • Each family contributes 300 hours of “sweat-equity” to the construction of Habitat homes
  • Participants complete financial counseling courses

Bastrop Home Repair Program

Through our Home Repair Program, Austin Habitat for Humanity works to revitalize Bastrop neighborhoods by:

  • Improving energy efficiency
  • Keeping low-income homeowners in their houses
  • Ensuring families live in safe, well-maintained homes
  • Preventing familes from being displaced
  • Protecting families' financial investments
  • Restoring homeowners' dignity and pride of ownership

We partner with a variety of other organizations to raise funds to provide help with home repairs for low-income families and community members including seniors, those with disabilities, veterans and single-parent families. We also provide opportunities for caring volunteer groups to assist homeowners in completing repairs.
