Youth Opportunities

AHFH YOUTH POLICY - Click here to review

Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult over 21 except in the offices.

Court ordered community service restitution volunteers MUST contact Sarah at 512-472-8788 x 106 to register.

Construction (16 or older)
A full day commitment is requested.  At an Austin Habitat for Humanity construction site your group might:
- Help prepare the foundation & driveway
- Help prepare future sites by clearing brush, trash, etc.
- Install and paint exterior trim & siding
- Install and paint interior wall & trim
- Hang doors
- Install cabinets & bathroom hardware
- Hang sheetrock
- Organize and straighten the tool trailer
- Build a shed
- And so many other!

ReStore (16 or older)
No commitment is required, any amount of time you have available is helpful.  In our volunteer-run, used and donated building supply Re-Store your group might:
- Organize hardware            
- Price donations
- Help customers find            
- Sort and measure doors merchandise                        
- Sort and measure doors
- Build racks                          
- Measure carpet
- Clean the floor                    
- Straighten displays
- Make signage                    
- Help prepare mail-outs
- Canvas surrounding neighborhoods with Re-Store information

DeConstruction (18 or older)
A minimum commitment of 4 hours per day is requested.  DeConstruction is a project that was begun by the AHFH ReStore and is an alternative to demolition.  It is the hand demolition of homes where all salvageable materials are taken to our ReStore for sale to the public and not thrown into a landfill.  On a DeConstruction site, your group might:
- Remove & de-nailing lumber                
- Inventorying salvaged items
- Removing roofs                  
- Removing doors
- Remove sheetrock              
- Remove windows
- Taking out flooring and subflooring
- Save materials from going to the landfill
 
Lunch Program (any age)
Help feed our hardworking volunteers!  You can commit to one time, or a regular schedule.  
Your group can participate by:
- Providing lunch for one of our worksites (40 people) on a Saturday or weekday
- Providing dinner for HomeBuyers when they attend classes, workshops, and focus groups (weeknights)
 
Administrative (12 or older)
These opportunities are seasonal and project based.

In our administrative facilities, a volunteer might:
- Coordinate a fundraising event
- Post flyers for AHFH
- Assist with a mass mail out
- Enter data into our database
