Blanco Habitat Recognizes Major Donors

The Steering Committee of Blanco County Chapter of Austin Habitat for Humanity designated November as Appreciation Month for its six most generous contributors for the years 2008-2009.

Two of the major donors hail from the town of Blanco, two from Johnson City, and two from out of the county. In fact, one of the large donors resides out of state.  Each week of the month one of these six contributors has been presented with a plaque.

Blanco National Bank has been the single largest contributor to Blanco County Chapter (BCC) since its inception. In recognition of the bank’s generosity, Nickie Cox, BCC Family Selection Committee chair, presented the plaque for Blanco National Bank with deepest appreciation to President Mark Tidwell.

The other major donor from Blanco is Real Ale Brewing. Community-service oriented owners Brad Farbstein and Gabrielle Gregorman graciously accepted the plaque from Keith Michal, one of the many hard-working construction volunteers for Blanco Chapter Habitat.

An appreciation plaque was mailed to Pescadero, California, to Stanford University professor Dr. Margaret Neale and her husband Mr. Alfred Lindahl. The couple owns property in Blanco County and has donated generously to BCC since its formation..

Claudia T. Johnson High School Jaguar volleyball team of North East ISD in San Antonio was presented a plaque for its large donation. The girls, strongly supported by their parents with time and dollars, staged a charity volleyball tournament. Principal Chris Wickerham and Head Coach Nicole Barzilla stress the importance of community service, and BCC is grateful that the team reached out to BCC in a neighboring county.

Two major donors from Johnson City are PEC United Charities and Johnson City Bank.

The chapter begins work on its second A Brush with Kindness (exterior repair) the last weekend in November. The 2010 project is to build another Habitat home.

Donations of every size are needed to complete paying for the lot and to begin the second house build.  Checks should be designated for BCC and mailed to Austin Habitat for Humanity, 310 Comal Street, Austin 78702 or Blanco County Habitat, P.O. Box 1375, Blanco, TX 78606.
