Habitat for Humanity is known throughout the world for its unique building model, in which volunteers work alongside the families who will own the completed homes. Austin Habitat is even more unique in that volunteers perform ALL labor except earthwork, sewer & water installation, concrete, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work. Volunteer groups are led by members of our construction staff, as well as highly skilled regular volunteer crew leaders. It takes 20 volunteers about 9 Saturdays to build a home.

Our homes vary depending on the community and family's needs. We build one story, single family homes that are designed to take on the look and feel of their neighborhoods.  Depending on the size of the family, they range from 2-5 bedrooms and are between 900 sq ft and 1400 sq ft. All of our homes are handicapped visitable. In addition, all of our homes have front porches, allowing families to spend more time outside and be an active part of their neighborhoods.

Using volunteer labor, we are able to build homes that defy the old stereotypes of affordable housing. We are experts at building quality, durable and energy efficient homes. We welcome new innovations and continually look for ways to improve our construction design and techniques. Habitat homes exceed most building standards and consistently receive five-star energy efficiency ratings from Austin Energy.
