Blanco County Chapter

Blanco County Chapter To Dedicate First Home

Blanco County Chapter of Austin Habitat for Humanity will dedicate the first Habitat for Humanity home in Blanco County with ceremonies at the site, 8 Miranda Court, Johnson City at 11 A.M. on Saturday, May 5th.

“This is an exciting time for our Blanco County Chapter volunteer as well as the new HomeBuyers.  The dedication of this new home reflects years of preparation by Blanco County and Austin staff and volunteers to bring the Habitat mission of ‘simple, decent, quality, affordable housing’ to Blanco County,” said Austin Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Michael Willard.

The home will be purchased by Johnson City residents Christy Crossley and Jeremy Meurer and their four children. The family met requirements to qualify for a Habitat mortgage and have contributed over 200 hours of sweat equity clearing the lot in preparation for the construction.

The Blanco County Chapter of Austin Habitat for Humanity is the first expansion of Austin Habitat services outside Austin city limits.  Residents of Blanco County approached the Austin Habitat affiliate with evidence of a need for affordable housing in their community and expressed a desire for a Habitat presence.  Since the Chapter formation, Austin Habitat has also begun providing homebuyer opportunities in Manor and areas east of Austin.

“While Austin residents continue to be the primary focus of our affordable housing efforts, we recognize the needs of surrounding Central Texas communities for Habitat houses and zero-interest mortgages.   We’re expanding our service areas where possible, to serve more families and engage more communities in helping their neighbors,” said Willard.
