Keeping Families and Homes Together
What we Do
Austin Habitat for Humanity works to eliminate sub-standard housing by partnering with low-income homeowners to repair and maintain their homes.
Typical projects include: roof repair, siding and trim, gutters, window and trim, doors, fencing, landscaping, painting, grading, soffit, and blown insulation.
How We Do It
We accept applications and reach out to neighborhood organizations to identify low-income, hardworking families whose homes are in need of repair. These tend to be seniors, disabled and single-parent families.
We partner with the city and a mix of organizations to provide the funds to repair the homes. We also provide opportunities for caring volunteer groups to assist homeowners in completing repairs.
Why it Matters
This work is important to homeowners because it…
1) Ensures families are living in safe and well maintained homes
2) Prevents families from being displaced from their homes and forced into transitional housing or shelters
3) Protects families’ financial investments
4) Restores the homeowners’ dignity and pride of homeownership
Our work is important to communities because it...
1) Revitalizes neighborhoods that have long been neglected
2) Preserves the history and culture of neighborhoods while implementing sustainable improvements
3) Inspires neighborhood inhabitants to reinvest in their communities
4) Protects Austin’s affordable housing
