About Us
Mission Statement

Austin Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to put our faith in action by building affordable, quality houses with families in need to eliminate poverty housing, one family at a time.

Vision Statement

Austin Habitat for Humanity will be at the forefront of the Greater Austin area's efforts to eliminate poverty housing by building community in multiple ways:

  • Building simple, decent, affordable homes in a way that optimizes volunteers, partner families, and commercial resources
  • Empowering partner families to break the cycle of poverty housing through education, skill development, and mentoring to become successful homeowners
  • Building a spirit of volunteerism by providing volunteer experiences and encouraging philanthropy to support the mission and spirit of Austin Habitat for Humanity
  • Maximize the ReStore initiative to provide affordable restoration materials, foster ecology-friendly DeConstruction and recycling, and generate vital funding for our future growth.

2005-2010 AHFH Strategic Plan
The Austin Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors approved a Strategic Plan on January 22, 2005.  The plan outlines organizational goals, markers and milestones by which the organization's effectiveness will be measured.

Austin Habitat encourages our supporters to review the Strategic Plan and to allow us to assist in engaging your interests in our mission.  Thank you for your continued support of AHFH.

Comments regarding the AHFH Strategic Plan may be made to:
Michael Willard, AHFH Executive Director.

HABITOURS - New Housing Advocacy Efforts for 2006
Austin Habitat has launched a new Outreach/Advocacy project to bring awareness to the poverty housing issues facing low-income Austinites.

HABITOURS is a 1-hour tour of Austin neighborhoods in which Austin Habitat has had a significant impact with our affordable housing program.  The tour visits recent and current AHFH home build sites and provides information about the organization's history and future.

HABITOURS are available the third Saturday of each month by reservation.  Tours leave the AHFH 310 Comal site promptly at 10:30am and last one hour.  The tour is free and open to the public.

History
Over 58,000 Austinites live in substandard or overcrowded housing. Monthly rent often exceeds a family's monthly household income. Bills are juggled from one month to the next, families go without necessities and communities deteriorate into squalor when there is no hope of a better tomorrow. Habitat gives families who have no other hope of ever owning their own home the opportunity to achieve their dreams of a place to call home...
